SN1a.1.01
This image was painted from a short video I found on the web. The video was a simulation of a type Ia supernova in a binary star sytem. The star that is exploding is off the top of the canvas; the image depicts what happens to the partner star as a result of the blast. I found the original video very striking, and very rich as a source of painterly forms - my current show includes three paintings inspired by this particular simulation.

For more information about this and others works by Feldschuh.

Simulations - This body of work continues the exploration of scientific images that I began with the Macrocosm series. With this new series, I have chosen images that researchers have created in an effort to simulate interesting phenomena which cannot be observed directly. Some of these simulations are created using supercomputers, others are physical simulations, created perhaps on a workbench or in a wind tunnel. The subject of interest is being seen indirectly, a step removed - the eye in the sky has become the eye of the mind. Another layer of abstraction comes into play, as the process of painting echoes the process of simulation.
