Clinical trials at a dozen major hospitals around the country are now testing a cutting-edge experimental therapy against the most common and aggressive type of brain tumor, glioblastoma multiforme. This video contains extended interview clips from a patient and doctor involved in the trial, as a supplement to the ScienCentral News story, "Brain Cancer Zapper."
Participant Michael Quatrano and principal investigator Herb Engelhard at the University of Illinois-Chicago Medical Center talk more about the disease and the experimental treatment.
"Michael and the other patients that are participating in this study are very brave individuals-- they're pioneers," Engelhard says. "I give a lot of credit to them; it's not easy, and they're fighting a very bad, very, very bad disease… And sometimes it can be difficult to participate in these experimental therapies, but it's certainly worth it."
