Nature Genome Information Centre
The Nature Genome Information Centre includes the latest news in genomic research, a news service from Nature and Nature Genetics providing up-to-the-minute coverage of research progress and the ethical implications of genome sequencing, a set of links to the most useful and informative genomics sites on the web, and a library of original research papers—amid other information.

DNA from the Beginning
This animated primer on the basic science of DNA, genes, and heredity is organized around key concepts and is explained using animation, an image gallery, video interviews, problems, biographies and links. It is funded by The Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation.

How to extract DNA from anything living
Extract DNA from any living thing—preferably not your pet, but perhaps some frozen peas—using the easy steps listed here. There will be so much DNA when you’re through, you’ll be able to see it without magnification.

Whitehead Center for Genome Research
A non-profit institute engaged in sequencing the human and mouse genomes. Whitehead scientists are working to dissect genes underlying complex traits in humans and mice, and to understand the nature and role of genetic variation in the human population. Additonally they are using global gene expression analysis to classify different types of cancer and to study intracellular signaling pathways.

The Celera Website
Celera is the publicly held company that competed with and then collaborated with the government-funded Human Genome Project to come up with a full map of the human genome. Company President J. Craig Venter was named Scientist of the Year 2000 by TIME.

The 1953 Watson and Crick paper published in NATURE that first described the double helix structure of DNA.

DOE Joint Genome Institute
The Department of Energy’s web site, including the Joint Genome Institute, which is a consortium of scientists, engineers and support staff from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories. The JGI has assumed a significant role in the effort to map the human genome.

Project Ensembl
A joint project between EMBL-EBI and the Sanger Centre to develop a system which automatically tracks all of the sequenced pieces of the human genome, attempts to assemble them into large single stretches, and then analyzes the assembled DNA to find genes and other features of interest to biologists and medical researchers. Includes a database of the human genome that is currently available in the public domain.

Genome glossary
A glossary of terms useful in understanding concepts of genes and genome research.

Human Genome News
Sponsored by the US. Department of Energy Human Genome Program. Latest genome news, discussion of ethical and moral issues surrounding gene research, calendar of meetings and referrals to other web publications and resources

Joint Genome Institute
Explains, with pictures, the basic science of human genome sequencing, including how the actual sequencing is done. Also includes history of human genome research at the Joint Genome Institute.

Human Genome Project Timeline
A timeline of events and accomplishments in the Human Genome Project, including audio press conferences and links to affiliated researchers, organizations, papers, and even pictures of chromosomes and genes.

Human Genome Working Draft
A comprehensive browser that can be searched by chromosome, gene, disease, you name it, with links to all the other online databases and maps.
