Blizzard, 2003
February 20, 2003
On February 17, 2003, almost half the United States was painted white in the "Blizzard of 2003". Final storm totals indicated parts of Western Maryland received up to four feet of snow, while New York City topped out at just over 25 inches. Now, less than one week later, the East prepares for the great melt down. Rising temperatures and heavy rains threaten basements, streets and rivers with flooding.

This true-color image was acquired on February 20, 2003 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Terra satellite.
